Individually tailored support

One-to-one learning

Individual tuition is at the heart of what we do here at the Sheila Ferrari Dyslexia Centre for the last 40 years. Our tutors are qualified specialists with experience in tutoring children and young people with dyslexia and other specific learning difficulties. Lessons are tailored to the pupil’s individual learning profile and draw on multi-sensory techniques and resources.

Depending on the needs of the individual, lessons will focus on English, maths, organisation and study skills. Although many of our pupils have had a diagnostic assessment before beginning tuition with us this is not essential.

The individual lessons take place at the Centre Mondays – Thursdays, 9 am – 6 pm; Fridays, 1 pm – 6 pm; Saturdays, 9 am – 2 pm. Lessons last for 40 or 50 minutes depending on the age and learning profile of the pupil.  Lessons are weekly and during term-time only.

We do not offer group tuition as we firmly believe in the benefit of individual attention and a personalised curriculum for pupils with learning difficulties

Individually tailored support

In school setting

In addition to supporting children and young people at our Centre we offer a range of services to support schools.

Our specialist tutors can provide tuition to individual pupils in school. This is a perfect opportunity to support children with their classwork, which will have a positive impact on their homework assignments too.

"You can find magic wherever you look. Sit back and relax, all you need is a book."

Remote learning

Our experienced team will deliver online learning support to children who are not able to attend sessions at the Centre. The duration of the lesson is 50 min and can be scheduled at a time that suits both parties. For our online tuition platform, we use Teams and an advanced integrated online whiteboard platform. This allows for a fully interactive learning space, where students and the teacher can work on a document simultaneously. A copy of the lesson is sent to the child after each session so that it can be revisited for revision purposes.
